We have multiple projects for motivated students at both the Bachelor and Master level in Physics / Chemistry / Material Science. If you are interested contact jonathan.pelliciari@unimore.it or pelliciari@unimore.it

Resonant Inelastic X-Ray Scattering (RIXS) on quantum materials

We seek motivated students interested in fundamental research and x-ray spectroscopy/scattering. This project will investigate the elementary excitations (spin, charge, lattice, orbital) of quantum materials such as high temperature superconductors (cuprates and nickelates), colossal magnetoresistive manganites, and single photon emitters (hBN) aiming to understand the mechanism leading to those properties. The spectroscopic data are RIXS data collected at large scale facilities worldwide (such as Brookhaven National Lab, USA and Diamond Light Source, UK).

Construction and development of an optical spectroscopy setup

We seek motivated students interested in hands-on research, instrumentation development, and optical spectroscopy. This project aims at the construction, commissioning, and early experiments of an advanced optical spectroscopy tool in the visible range. This novel technique will be used to investigate solid state materials.

Computational improvement of data reduction pipeline in synchrotron / large scale facilities data

We seek motivated students interested in the development of computational tools for the analysis of experimental data. This project wants to address the data reduction pipeline of data from charge coupled devices (CCD) to improve the resolution, signal-to-noise, and uncertainty estimation. It involves the analysis of CCD images and development of computational algorithm to improve these data.
